Jockwoof’s Guide to Goalie Jocks
Itech Jock Goalie
I really like the Itech Jock Goalie's convenient combination of shorts,
garter-velcro, and cup pocket. (I like the black color, too. It looks very
serious }: ) I like the padding at the hips and the inside thighs. (I'm
size "Small" and don't exactly have a lot of built-in padding, so I appreciate
any extra.)
However, I feel that the cup that comes with the Itech Jock Goalie could
be improved. I like the overall size and outline of the cup: It provides
plenty of protection between my chest and my groin. However, I wish the
cup portion were deeper and more aggressively contoured -- more like a
Bike or Banana cup. And I wish the shorts provided more support (like
what you get from a traditional jock strap). With the Itech cup I feel
that a solid hit to the groin, whether from a puck, player, or stick,
would push on the cup and place the impact on the testicles instead of
around them to the pubic bone. =:o

If I were to redesign the Itech Jock Goalie, here's what I'd do...
- Make the cup pocket contoured like the pocket of a regular cup supporter. The current pocket is flat and provides no support.
- Extend the padding on the front inner thighs another inch or two forward.
- Redesign the cup to make it more aggressively contoured. For the lower part I'd start with something like the Cooper/Bauer/ProTec, Banana, or or Bike cups as the basis, while keeping the same tall/wide upper part that it has now.
- I'd experiment with extra pads beyond the edges of the cup, like the big Koho jock has.
- I'd experiment with a two-part overlapping groin cup and contoured belly pad. (That would require a more complicated liner, but would gain lots of mobility without gaps.)
Now that I think about it, that's a big project. Itech Goalie II, maybe. Itech equipment has a good reputation ... I hope they keep up their excellent engineering work.
