The BMW R-series have flat-twin engines. Here’s a photo of my bike from straight afead. You can see the twin cylinder heads poking out the sides of the bike, protected by the engine guards. Some people think that the cylinder heads are highly susceptible to getting scraped on the pavement or cause trouble when lane-splitting, but they’re high enough and not really all that wide, so it’s not a problem.
