Paralever

The perfect complement to the excellent Telelever front suspension is the BMW Paralever rear suspension.

The Paralever rear suspension has these main components:

  • the back end of the frame
  • driveshaft housing
  • rear axle housing
  • torque arm
  • spring/damper unit

The four pivot points of the Paralever—the two ends of the torque arm and the wtwo ends of the driveshaft housing—define a quadrilateral. As the rear suspension moves up and down, the torque arm controls the movement of the rear axle housing. The result is that the rear axle moves through an arc as it would if it were on a pivot over a meter long.

Because it’s shaft-driven, maintenance is radically reduced: There's no chain to lubricate or set the tension on.
