This is the wiring diagram from the Haynes manual with modifications as described in this web page highlighted. It is shown here at half size. Please feel free to download the full-size version (233k) and print it out at full size. Better yet, go to Amazon and buy the Haynes R1100 Shop Manual.

Right-Side Connector (Lights Switch)

Green/blue (3) provides power from the ignition switch via the starter load-relief relay. In position 3, white/yellow (4) provides power for the headlight. In positions 2 and 3 gray/blue (7) provides power for the auxiliary lights. In position 1, lights are off.

Cut the green (3), gray/blue (7), and white/yellow (4) wires a couple of inches from the plug. Strip the short ends and connect them together. You can either solder or use a crimp connector. This provides an unbroken power supply for the headlight (white/yellow) and running lights (gray/blue). This is how the stock US part is wired, so the bike is still legal in the US: the headlight and running lights are always on.

A couple of inches from the plug, cut the brown (ground) wire. Strip both ends. Strip the other end of the green ("power") wire. Connect the green and two brown wires together. Now the switch that used to provide power for the running lights and headlights provides ground for the auxiliary lamp relay(s).

Left-Side Connector (Hi/Lo Switch)

Power comes form the white/yellow wire (7). The white wire (1) is energized to turn on the high beam. The yellow wire (4) is energized to turn on the low beam. The green/blue wire (8) provides power so that you can flash the high-beam even if the headlights are switched off by the right-hand switch. It is redundant in US-spec bikes.

Auxiliary lamps relay: Connect one side of the relay-coil (10) to the white wire on the left-hand switch (1) (white/black checkered) and the other side (8) to the white/yellow wire of the right-hand switch (4) (white/red). Connect one side of the relay-switch (7) through a fuse to the battery (white/black checkered) and the other side (6) to the auxiliary lamps (yellow). Ground the auxiliary lamps.

Fog lamps relay (not pictured): Connect one side of the relay-coil (10) to the yellow wire on the left-hand switch (4) and the other side to the Gray/blue wire of the right-hand switch (7). Connect one side of the relay-switch to through a fuse to the battery (7) and the other side (6)to the fog lamps. Ground the fog lamps.
